Bristol Festival Of Ideas - Robert Macfarlane - Underland
Robert Macfarlane takes us on a deep-time journey into the vast and hidden worlds beneath our feet. From the ice-blue depths of Greenland’s glaciers, to the underground networks by which trees communicate, from Bronze Age burial chambers to the rock art of remote Arctic sea-caves, he voyages into the planet's past and future, transforming our thinking about the Earth in the time of the Anthropocene. He is in conversation with Andrew Kelly, the director of the Festival of Ideas.
Macfarlane is the author of Mountains of the Mind, The Wild Places, The Old Ways, Landmarks, and The Lost Words: A Spell Book, co-created with Jackie Morris. His books have won many prizes and been translated around the world. His work has been widely adapted for film, television, radio, music and stage. In 2017 he was awarded the EM Forster Prize for Literature by the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He is a Fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
