This is a day with engineering at its heart, jointly developed with Augusta Westland Helicopters and offering a very practical insight into the principles of rotary flight. Students will be enthralled by a superb, 3D Planetarium show Dream to Fly, that brings to life the history of human flight, followed by an interactive Studio show examining engineering solutions and the principles of flight. In the Training Academy workshop, students work in teams on a series of investigations and calibrate sensors on a robotic helicopter to model a successful air-sea rescue mission. The day concludes with teams applying their newly acquired engineering skills to design and construct a model ‘auto-rotation craft’ - sufficient to withstand a crash - in an ‘egg drop challenge’.
