After Hours: Time (18+)

The passage of time: a preoccupation of the human race and also the theme of our April After Hours. Join us for the evening as we open up the venue for our adult visitors and start some intriguing conversations about the nature of time and what it means to us.

There'll be music from Alfresco Disco DJs, experiments and chat based on your burning questions in Time Lab (tell us your question here and it may feature on the night) and a microscopic perspective offered by fermenting foodstuffs in the Kitchen. We are also delighted to be welcoming artist Juliet Robson, who will be using Chladni plates to create beautiful visualisations of infrasounds. Part of collaborative project hertz, this is a chance to see the patterns made by inaudible sounds of far flung stars.

In the Box gallery, we'll be showing the critically acclaimed documentary 'Notes on Blindness', a highly emotive piece charting one man's journey into a world beyond sight, and in the Planetarium, it's the awe-inspiring Spring Stargazing, a guided tour of the spring night sky, taking in the dance of Jupiter's moons and whisking the audience a million years into the future.

The whole venue will be open for you to explore without the kids around, plus bars and pizza!

It’s called a Gift Aid visit and, it makes a huge difference to charities like us. As a big thank you, we will give you back your donation in vouchers to spend in our café or bar! Your donations will go towards our learning and local community projects. Thank you!
