Chain Reaction!

*This event has now passed*

Become an inventor and work together to make an elaborate chain reaction, also known as a Rube Goldberg machine.

A Rube Goldberg Machine is a contraption intentionally designed to perform a simple task in an indirect and complicated way. Think of a line of dominos that will end up pushing a juice cartoon over to fill up a single glass. It would have been easier to simply just pour the juice by hand, but where's the fun in that?

We'll be challenging you to use toys, balls, dominoes, pulleys, levers and electronics to make your own chain reaction machine.

Come with family, friends, or on your own, and choose together what happens next in this brilliant contraption!

We'll also be using beautiful bespoke props and contraptions themed around sustainable development created by artist Ramona Bigwood

Work together as we tackle some of the challenges of the climate crisis in a playful way! Maybe even have a discussion around how simple small actions can also start a change reaction towards a healthier planet for us all.

The activity will last around 45 minutes, with 15 minutes at the end to show the machine in action.

Each session will have limited places. Sign up in Millennium Square from 10:30 for sessions throughout the day or just come to drop in and watch the show
