Roll up, roll up! We The Curious Ice Rink and Winter Fair to open with a circus-themed launch event!

Wednesday 7 November | Jen Forster

A winter playground is coming to Millennium Square – as our real-ice ice rink, and winter fair open on Saturday 17 November with a free outdoor screening of ‘The Greatest Showman’, some west-end magic with a performance from the Bristol Show Choir, and circus skills workshops and entertainment supplied by the students of Circomedia.

To mark the launch of the ice rink and winter fair, all tickets purchased online (this offer is available online only) are just £5 for all the skate sessions that day, and up until 23 Nov!

From 1pm on Saturday 17, Circomedia will be on hand to provide dazzling walkabout entertainment, with stilt-walkers, jugglers, and immersive characters amongst the stalls and old-fashioned rides.  You’ll be able to try your hand at juggling, plate spinning, and even tightrope walking in the circus skills area run by local education providers Circomedia.

At 3pm, the Bristol Show Choir take to the stage and will be singing songs from smash hit West End and Broadway shows, as well as lesser known off-Broadway gems and some Christmas classics, all in acapella.

At 4pm there will be a free outdoor screening of hit musical film ‘The Greatest Showman’ - the worldwide musical sensation that tells the story of the birth of show business! And at 8pm, join the party at Après Bar Bristol as their house DJ Dorney spins the decks with a range of house, techno and disco tunes.

The real-ice rink will be open from Saturday 17 November until 6 January; sessions will be open to the general public, schools groups, home educator groups, evening ‘Disco Boots’ and special ‘Little Boots’ under 8s sessions.

The ice rink will again be joined by fairground activities as part of ‘Millennium Square Winter Fair’, including a helter-skelter, as well as the return of the ‘Skyview’ Wheel (a 35m observation wheel), the Après-ski container bar, chalet stalls with a selection of delicious hot food and drinks, and a fabulous Christmas tree. There will also be special ‘At The Movies’ free film screenings on Big Screen Bristol throughout the season including Love Actually, Elf, Home Alone, Polar Express and Gremlins.

Tickets for the ice rink will cost £9.95 for adults, £8.95 for concessions and £7.95 for children for a 45-minute skate session, with reduced entry rates for group bookings and a discount for booking in advance online. Skate aids (penguins and bananas!) are also available to hire. From 17 – 23 November all online tickets are £5!

Opening times vary, so please visit or call our Bookings team on 0117 915 1000 (Monday to Friday 9-5) for more information. The ice rink will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Editor’s Notes

About We The Curious:

We The Curious was previously known as At-Bristol Science Centre; an educational charity with an aim to “make science accessible to all”, it opened in 2000, and welcomed over 5 million visitors in the past 17 years. At-Bristol relaunched as We The Curious in September 2017, with a new vision that is committed to creating a culture of curiosity.

We The Curious is an idea and a place for everyone. Our venue on Bristol’s harbourside is a bit like an indoor festival, with all sorts of different experiences, where you can interact with exhibits, test stuff out and participate rather than just visit.  We’re all about empowering everyone to ask questions and get creative - with boundaries removed between science, art, people and ideas - a culture of curiosity.

About Circomedia:
Circomedia is one of the UK’s largest providers of circus and physical theatre education for all ages based right here in Bristol. Children as young as 4 years old can join our Youth Circus and for those who want to pursue it at a higher level, we offer a Level 3 BTEC for learners aged 16+ and a Degree for anyone over 18. Circomedia also runs evening classes for adults who want to try their hand at some aerial, acrobatics or juggling and our venue in Portland Square plays host to almost 30 professional touring shows every year. Head to for further information.
