Become a volunteer

Support our work as a charity, learn new skills while having fun as one of our volunteers. You don’t need a science background – just enthusiasm!

Volunteers play a vital role in enabling us to extend our vision to connect and empower people through sharing creative experiences which celebrate unknowns in science.

We want to connect with more people and reflect our community.

Why become a We The Curious volunteer?

Provides connections - people are at the heart of what we do. Whether you’re spending time with visitors on our exhibition floor, supporting a school visit or working with our team in the office.

Learn new skills while having fun – our activities and themes are always changing and with two floors of exhibitions there is something new to learn every day.

It fits in with your life - we recognise that it’s not always easy to find the time to volunteer. Whether it’s a few hours a month or once a week – we value all contributions.

What volunteer opportunities are there?

We have loads of volunteer roles and are always adding more opportunities to the list. Simply click on the card to find out more about some of our key roles:
A group of 4 primary school children - looking off camera to the left, some concentrating, some smiling.

Education - Support children in school workshops (weekdays)

We have an exciting range of curriculum related workshops for children from primary age to sixth form. Volunteers support the Education team to set up for workshops and pack down as well as making sure pupils are supported and have fun throughout the workshop.

A member of We The Curious staff turns a handle on an exhibit. The question 'why do rainbows make people happy' is visible in the background.

Special events (weekdays, evenings and weekends)

We run a range of events in our venue such as Toddler Takeovers and After Hours adult events as well as running out and about activities across Bristol. Volunteers help with welcoming visitors and making sure they can make the most of all the activities available.

A sign reading 'what does curiosity mean to you?' with post-it notes around it

Behind the scenes (weekdays)

Occasionally we have opportunities to support behind the scenes such as inputting visitor feedback, researching funding opportunities and finding great content for our Big Screen!

Who can volunteer?

We value the positive impact greater representation will have on our organisation, programmes and culture.

It’s our goal to become an inclusive place to volunteer and for our teams to better reflect our city and the people who visit us. We welcome applications from people of all lived experiences and particularly those that are not well represented in the science centre sector.

Read more about our approach to include everyone in everything we do in the Inclusion section.

Important bits to note:

  • You don't need to have a science background to get involved!
  • You'll need to be over 16 years old.
