Partial Solar Eclipse 2026

On the 12th of August 2026, the UK will witness an amazing partial solar eclipse. The Earth, Sun, and Moon will align and from our perspective, around 90% of the Sun will be blocked by the Moon. 

We The Curious will be joining the Bristol Astronomical Society and the Friends of the Downs and Avon Gorge for a safe viewing session at the Seawalls viewing area overlooking Avon Gorge and Clifton Suspension Bridge. 

It's never safe to look directly at the Sun, so we'll be handing out free eclipse viewing glasses and offering the chance to view the eclipse through our solar telescope. We invite you to join us!

In the meantime, we've got lots going on in and around our venue to celebrate the eclipse. We'll be running a special eclipse activity in our Theatre of Curiosity from the 5 to 12 August. You can learn all about eclipses and make your very own Moon on a Stick.
