Discover the skills you need to survive and escape the deserted island.

We've turned our Open City Lab into a desert island and it's your turn to learn the research skills to help you survive there!

Explore 5 islands of research and master the skills you’ll need to overcome the challenges of the island. 

• Get creative with different materials to make the tools that will help you survive. Explore the differences between man-made and natural materials and test your creations to see which materials are up to the task.   
• Team up with a robot to find food to survive on the island.
• Use AI responsibly to get survival tips. AI uses a lot of water so you'll need to decide how much water you are willing to use to get the tips.
• Use a live weather reading to figure out the best time to make your escape.
• Use specialist equipment to find the resident bats. Use the detector to ‘hear’ the bats’ call and work out what kind of bat(s) are hiding on the island.

From 8 July onwards. Drop in throughout the day from 11am. There will be two 15 minute workshops during the day, check times in foyer.
